Choosing the Right Pool Design for Your Naples, Florida Home

A custom pool turns your Naples backyard into a private resort—and our weather means you can use it pretty much year-round. But there are a lot of decisions to make, and it can feel overwhelming. At JY Mega FC Construction, we've built pools throughout Collier and Lee Counties. Here's what we tell clients.

Geometric vs. Freeform: What Works for Your House?

Geometric Pools

Clean lines and defined shapes:

Rectangles and squares look classic and work great for lap swimming
L-shapes and modified rectangles maximize space while adding visual interest
Works best with: Mediterranean, contemporary, and traditional architecture
Where we see them: Pelican Bay, Park Shore, Grey Oaks—communities with architectural guidelines

Geometric pools complement structured landscaping and formal designs. They look "right" with Naples' prestigious neighborhoods.

Freeform Pools

Organic shapes that create a lagoon feel:

Curved edges that flow with your landscape
Irregular shapes that can wrap around trees or existing features
Works best with: Tropical landscapes, casual entertaining, unique lots
Where we see them: Waterfront properties, Golden Gate Estates, homes going for a resort vibe

Features Naples Pool Owners Love

Sun Shelves (Baja Shelves)

These shallow areas (4-8 inches deep) might be the #1 requested feature we see:

Perfect for lounging in the water with a drink without fully committing to swimming
Safe for young kids to splash around
Great spot for in-pool lounge chairs
Can be designed as beach-style gradual entries

Spa/Hot Tub Integration

Even in Florida, people want spas:

Elevated spillovers create that visual drama and soothing water sound
Flush spas blend seamlessly with the pool
Separate heating lets you use the spa when the pool's too cool (rare, but it happens)

Infinity Edges

If you've got a view, show it off:

Creates the illusion of water extending to the horizon
Stunning on waterfront or golf course properties
More complex = 20-40% more cost than standard edges
Needs additional equipment and slightly more maintenance

Water Features

Add ambiance and help mask neighborhood noise:

Sheer descent waterfalls for modern, sleek looks
Rock waterfalls for natural aesthetics
Bubblers and deck jets for playful movement
Fire bowls combining water and flame—very Naples

The Big Question: Screen Enclosure or Open?

This is one of the most debated decisions:

Screened Enclosures

Keep out bugs (huge in Florida), debris, and critters
Dramatically reduce cleaning and chemical costs
Some HOAs require them
Provide shade and reduce evaporation
Add $15,000-$40,000+ to your project

Open Pools

Unobstructed sky and sunshine
Lower initial cost
More cleaning and chemical maintenance
Better for infinity edges and certain aesthetics
You will deal with more bugs—it's just reality

How Long Does This Take?

Here's a realistic timeline:

Design and permitting: 5-10 weeks (Collier County permitting takes time—not much we can do about that)
Excavation and steel: 1-2 weeks
Gunite/shotcrete shell: 1 week plus cure time
Tile, coping, and decking: 2-4 weeks
Equipment and finishing: 1-2 weeks
Plaster and fill: 1 week

Total: 12-18 weeks from permit approval to your first swim

What It Actually Costs

Pool construction in Naples typically runs:

Basic pool (15x30): $50,000-$70,000
Mid-range with features: $70,000-$120,000
Luxury custom pool: $120,000-$250,000+
Screen enclosure: Add $15,000-$40,000+
Pool deck/patio: Add $10,000-$50,000+

Prices have gone up significantly since 2020—materials and demand. Get a few quotes, and be skeptical of prices that seem way below market. There's usually a reason.

Finding the Right Builder

Look for:

Proper licensing—Florida requires pool contractor certification
Real insurance protecting you during construction
Local experience with Collier County permitting and our soil conditions
Completed projects you can visit or at least verify
Clear contracts with detailed specs and payment schedules
Recent references who'll actually talk to you
